5 Day Top End Parks Tour for Families
Day 1 (L,D)
You will be collected from your Darwin accommodation at 7.30am for your private 5 day family 4WD Safari to Kakadu, Katherine and Litchfield.
We head south along the Stuart highway and into Fog Dam Conservation Reserve. These wetlands have international significance because of their beauty and natural ecosystems. A great variety of fauna can be found here throughout the year as well as a large variety of birdlife.
At 9am we join a Jumping Crocodile cruise on the Adelaide River. Watch these amazing creatures leap up for a feed, from the safety of your boat.
Continuing our journey along the Arnhem highway, we stop at the Bark Hut and then make our way into heritage listed Kakadu National park. Kakadu is the largest national park in Australia , has some of the world’s finest rock art and a variety of habitats, including floodplains and savannah woodlands.
Once within the park, we make our way to the north towards Ubirr Rock art site. A picnic lunch will be served on the banks of the East Alligator River and then we explore Ubirr, walking through galleries of ancient aboriginal rock art, which your guide will interpret. Also learn about bushtuckers and medicines before reaching the top of the plateau, where you can relax and enjoy the view over the floodplains.

Day 2 ( B,L,D)
After breakfast we make our way to Nourlangie Rock, an ancient Aboriginal shelter, where we will explore the area and the rock art. Your guide will lead you on an interpretive walk around the site.
Then we make our way to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge and falls), where we take a walk through a paperbark forest t o reach the gorge and have a refreshing swim in the plungepool.
After lunch, we visit the Warradjan Cultural centre for an insight into the cultural history of the park.
Late this afternoon, join the sunset Yellow Waters wildlife cruise, with it’s abundance of flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for saltwater crocodiles !

Day 3 (B,L,D)
We spend this morning at Gunlom, where we take a hike to the top of the falls to admire the amazing view and take a dip in the pristine rockpools. There is also a large plungepool at the base of the falls and we have time to relax and have a swim.
After lunch, we depart Kakadu through the southern entrance towards Katherine Township and out to the Hot Springs. Enjoy a soothing dip in the thermal pools or sit and relax under the small waterfall.
Overnight permanent camp - Maud Creek, in fixed tents with proper beds and shared bathrooms (for our group only), OR Overnight accommodation in the Nitmiluk Chalets
Day 4 (B,L,D)
We start today with a 2 hour cruise through Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge, which is home to 13 spectacular gorges, carved out of the rock by torrential summer rains, over millions of years. Nitnit Dreaming incorporates travel along two gorges, where you’ll discover the customs of the traditional land owners, the Jawoyn people.
After the cruise, we have a cultural experience at Top Didj and Art Gallery. Activities on offer include sitting down with resident artist, Manuel who will tell you tales of tribal life, language, the hunting and gathering techniques, ceremony, weapons used and aboriginal contemporary life. Create your own Rarrk painting with Manuel or Dot painting with Adrianna from the desert community of Yuendumu (which is yours to keep). You will also have an opportunity to participate in one of the traditional hunting activities (firelighting, spear throwing etc.).The experience lasts around 2 hours and afterwards we have lunch.
Mid afternoon, we leave Katherine and make our way north again to this evenings camp at at Mt Bundy Station. The station has an interesting history and is set in a picturesque bush setting, attracting a multitude of wildlife. There may be time this evening for a walk around the station or you can visit the station animals.

Day 5 (B,L)
Today is spent swimming and exploring beautiful Litchfield National Park.

Enjoy swimming at Wangi Falls, Florence Falls and Buley Rockhole, which are a series of small waterfalls that are a great place to simply sit and relax.
View Tolmer Falls, which has several colonies of the rare Ghost and Orange Horseshoe Bats and visit the amazing magnetic termite mounds.
Late this afternoon, we depart Litchfield on the unsealed dirt road and begin our drive back to Darwin, arriving at approximately 6pm. You will be dropped off at your accommodation.
