3 Day Wet Season Kakadu 4WD Safari
Day 1 (L,D)
You will be collected from your Darwin accommodation at 7.30am for your 3 day private 4WD Kakadu Safari.
We head south along the Stuart highway and into Fog Dam Conservatio n Reserve. These wetlands have international significance because of their beauty and natural ecosystems. A great variety of fauna can be found here throughout the year as well as a large variety of birdlife.
After a comfort stop at the Bark Hut, we make our way into heritage listed Kakadu National park. Kakadu is the largest national park in Australia , has some of the world’s finest rock art and a variety of habitats, including floodplains and savannah woodlands.
Once within the park, we visit Nourlangie Rock, an ancient Aboriginal shelter, where we will explore the area and the rock art. Your guide will lead you on aninterpretive walk around the site.
We visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre for an insight into the cultural history of the park and late this afternoon, board the sunset Yellow Waters billabong cruise, with it’s prolific birdlife and wonderful variety of plants. Estuarine crocodiles are often spotted here.
After the cruise, we make our way to our overnight accommodation in Jabiru and enjoy a BBQ dinner.
Overnight accommodation- Lakeview Park, bush bungalows
Day 2 (B,L,D)
Start this morning with a spectacular 1 hour scenic flight over Kakadu including Twin and Jim Jim Falls. The falls are at their best during the wet season but are inaccessible by road so you can only see them from the air.
We visit the Bowali visitors information centre and then we drive to the south of the park to explore a few of wet season only waterfalls, which are part of the Yurmikmik walks.
There are a couple of longer walks and a shorter walk, all leading to lovely waterfalls, including Motorcar falls and Boulder Creek.
Motorcar Falls is a 4 km walk each way and is a 25m waterfall dropping down into a beautiful rock plunge pool. Boulder Creek is accessed by a short 2km rocky walk, which leads to some rockpools with a small waterfall.
Overnight accommodation- Lakeview Park, bush bungalows
Day 3 (B,L)
This morning we take the Gubara pools walk, past sandstone cliffs to shady monsoon forest pools- a great place to relax in the heat of the day. The walk is 3km each way.
A picnic lunch will be served en-route.
Finally onto Nanguluwar art site, which offers a spectacular mix of contact art.
